Chamber Action Network
The Chamber Action
Network (CAN), the Maryland Chamber’s grassroots program, is an
alliance of Maryland-based chambers of commerce representing 22,000
employers statewide. This network of well-informed business
advocates is committed to supporting the Maryland Business Agenda
through grassroots advocacy in each legislative district throughout
the state. CAN’s activities include
-
Promoting
issues that are important to the economic well-being of Maryland
businesses.
-
Coordinating
lobbying activity with local chambers to stimulate economic
development.
-
Striving
to improve the economic climate by reducing the over-regulation
and the tax burden placed upon businesses.
-
Educating
the business community regarding legislation, regulations, how
the political arena operates, and how to become politically
involved in state and local government.
-
Informing
elected officials and candidates for elected office of the
concerns of the business community
CAN accomplishes
its goals through the cooperation of its CAN Partners. The Maryland
Chamber’s lobbying team monitors critical business issues in
Annapolis, and sends reports and alerts to the other CAN Partners,
who in turn disseminate the information to more than 22,000
businesses statewide. The CAN partners are able to mobilize local
grassroots efforts in the home districts of the General Assembly
members, leading to greater impact and improved results in
Annapolis.
Throughout the year
CAN holds numerous events to engage the business community in the
public policy arena. Hosting, sponsoring and attending these events
are great ways to connect to business and political leaders. CAN
Events include:
-
CAN Issue
Briefings are hosted by CAN Partner member businesses throughout
the state in the months leading up to the General Assembly
session. Members of the Maryland Chamber’s public policy team
update the business community on what are likely to be the key
business issues in the upcoming session;
-
Mid-Session
Review is held each year in Annapolis at around the halfway
point of the General Assembly session. Legislative leaders are
invited to brief the business community on the progress being
made in the session;
-
Committee
Breakfasts with key committees of the Maryland General Assembly
during the legislative session to discuss matters of importance
to the business community.
-
Delegation
Meetings, hosted by CAN Partner member businesses, bring
together district delegations and area business leaders to
discuss issues of importance to the businesses in that district.
-
CAN Silent
Auction during the Maryland Chamber’s Business Policy
Conference;
