Bill Summary: This bill would have authorized the Comptroller to require state agencies to electronically provide license, permit and registration information for a data warehouse operated by the Comptroller to assist in tax enforcement. The data submitted would have included any information submitted by an applicant for a license, permit, or registration issued by a state agency for any business, occupation, vocation, study, matriculation, motor vehicle, or boat, or data obtained by state agencies relative to those licenses.

History: The bill died without a vote in the Budget & Taxation Committee.

Chamber Position: Support W/Amend

Position Summary: The MD Chamber supports efforts of the Comptroller to use all relevant agency data to assist in the collection of taxes that are due. We sugested amendments to clarify that such data gathered will only be used for tax administration and to guarantee that the confidentiality of the data is maintained.
