Chamber Position: Oppose Position
Summary: The free market is the most efficient and cost-effective system for delivering goods and services needed by Maryland residents. The Maryland Chamber opposes measures that would impose regulation on goods and services because of the impact such regulation would have on the marketplace, particularly during times of shortages. While this bill would establish a task force to look at pricing of gasoline, the Chamber believes it would open the door for price regulation and therefore opposes the bill. A study was performed a few years ago and no action was recommended at that time. For this reason, the Maryland Chamber opposes HB 1138.
